+CATAPULT (c, 2, Kitten’s Joy–Gata Bella, by Storm Cat) found his best stride late and earned a debut victory in the Belmont nightcap Sunday, capping off a four-win day for both trainer Chad Brown and jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. The dark bay first appeared on the worktab in Elmont Aug. 16 and spent a few weeks at Saratoga before returning to this locale to complete his preparations with a pair of four-furlong breezes in October. Sent postward at odds of 7-2, the juvenile secured an ideal position at the fore of the chase pack as Giant Run (Giant’s Causeway) zipped through a half-mile in :47.04. Asked to quicken on the far turn, he confronted the stubborn pacesetter in midstretch and pulled clear to a 1 1/4-length score over that foe. The winner, a half to Ha Ha Tonka (Distorted Humor), SW, $156,400, sold for $235,000 as a KEEJAN yearling and progressed to go for $350,000 at Keeneland September later in the year. His second dam is GISW Capote Belle (Capote). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $45,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
